Microsoft yi baiti bold font. Purchased a laptop recently ASUS S550CA-SS51T. Below are the specs: Core i5 3317u, 8gb RAM, Intel 4000 VGA, 1TB 5400 rpm HDD ST1000LM024, 24gb SSD KINGSTON SMSM150. I wanted to install the smallest w7 ultimate 64bit i could get so i trimmed some stuff out of it complied an iso with rt7lite and voila my install was about 10gb with sp1 installed but no updates, i am now around 17gb with office 07 and a few updates. I am missing a driver for the wifi module but none of the drivers from the asus website work.
I also have another unknown device listed with no driver. I do not know who makes the wifi chip because i didnt pay attention when i first booted the laptop in win8 (which is what it had installed when shipped). From the asus website i can tell that its either intel or atheros which make 80% of our wifi chips. I opened the biggest panel on the back and i couldnt see the wifi chip, the specs call for an integrated bgn wifi.
My numlock key also does not work nor does it turn the numlock led on. I do not have anything in my 'ease of access/accessibility/on screen keyboard', took all of that out. So then here are the questions: 1. How to find the driver for the wifi or at least what exact wifi chip is in this thing? How to get the numlock key to work properly? Well i managed to install InstallShield CABView and look through the cab's in the win8 drivers from ASUS. Found win7 x64 drivers extracted each file individually and then did a manual driver install from device manager.
However the numlock key still remains an issue. Edit: the name of the wifi adapter is qualcomm atheros ar9485wb-eg. Answer: Figured out if you look up the hardware id for an unknown device in google it usually brings up the actual name of the device. So if you ever need a driver an dont know for what look at the hardware id.
As far as the numlock being broken, it was because i disabled accesibility options when i made my lite version of w7 ultimate x64. I fixed it by installing autohotkey modifying the demo script to send a hotkey keeping numlock always on. So the numlock never turns off but that's ok i don't see the point of having a numpad if you going to turn it off.
